General Course Operating Instructions
This course is designed to be run as stand-alone or
Web-based training. You can run the course through Microsoft Internet Explorer
(IE), Mozilla Firefox, and
Netscape Navigator browsers. The course is also available in the
For optimal use of a screen reader, it is recommended that the IE browser be used to access the course.
Each page in this course streams down completely before it begins. In the case of a slow network connection, download times for larger pages may be on the order of two minutes. A few pages contain smaller linked files which download upon selection, possibly introducing some lag time before play.
Web links in the resources section of the course were operational in June 2007.
If you do not have a web connection, some of the web pages will not display.
To help protect your security, your browser may restrict a file from showing active content. Should you receive a message stating this, select the area, and choose "Allow Blocked content...." Then choose 'Yes,' to run active content.
This course is written for the minimum system requirements, being Internet Explorer 6.0, Netscape 8.1, and Mozilla Firefox 1.5. It is also written for the screen reading software Jaws version 8.0. If you would like to have the screen reader read the entire text per section rather than frame by frame, first select the Show Text option, and then select the Print Text link. The screen reader can then read the information, or you have the option to use the Save As feature under the File menu.
The course has a Site Map, which displays an outline of the modules and topics. You may find it helpful to print the site map and use it as a record of what you have accomplished.
General Operating Instructions
1. If opening the course from a CD, place the CD into the CD-ROM drive. If you have a Macromedia Flash ® 7 plugin installed, the course may be run by accessing the 'index.html,' or 'index' file through one of the specified browsers.
2. If you do not have a browser, or the Flash Player, or a connection to the Internet, the CD contains an installation file for Netscape 8 browser and Macromedia Flash Player 7.
To install the Netscape browser, select the subdirectory named Netscape-8 Installer, then select the NSB-Install-8-1-2.exe installation program and follow the directions.
To install the Flash Player for the Netscape browser, select the flashplayer7r63_win.exe installation program and follow the directions.
For the IE browser, select the file named flashplayer7r63_IE.exe in the root level directory and follow the directions.
NOTE: You will not see the .exe if you have file extensions turned off.
3. Parts of the course are formatted in HTML. If you use assistive technology, such as a screen reader, D-links provide descriptions of the graphics on that frame. Terminal screen content and some pages have large amounts of text that are directly available to accessibility technology in the content, and are not replicated in the D-Links. Alternative text, or Alt-tag, is provided for every image on the Web page.
4. The course provides "Show Text" panels that present the audio part of the course. The "Show Text" is also accessible through keyboard commands.
A large portion of the course is keyboard accessible. However, not all browser versions behave the same. In all browsers, the user must select the menu bar on the screen at least once in order for keypresses to function properly. The following are instructions and exceptions for some versions of Netscape Navigator, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Internet Explorer.

1. To install the course on a network, place the highest level files in the network home or target directory. Copy the lower level directories to the same relative position in the file structure.
2. If you are operating with ActiveX disabled because of mobile code restrictions and want to run this course over a network, use Netscape Navigator or Firefox as your browser rather than Internet Explorer. Flash uses ActiveX when played on IE.
